O P E N C A L L # 21
Application Deadline - 11/05/2022
We are delighted to announce that our upcoming LIVING FOREST residency, which will take place between 11/11 and 12/12 2022, will be curated by the artist Bené Fonteles.
Bené Fonteles is a poet, writer, visual artist, curator and environmentalist who dialogues with the aesthetics and poetics of Brazilian Afro-Indigenous cultures. Born in Pará, he was director of the Museum of Art and Popular Culture in Mato Grosso in the 1980s and in 2000's he was the director of the Museum of Art in Brasília. He participated in the 32nd São Paulo Biennial, INCERTEZA VIVA, with the installation entitled 'Oca Tapera Terreiro', which welcomed artists, activists, ecologists, anthropologists and educators for debates on the subject.
The artistic residency Kaaysa: LIVING FOREST intends to contemplate the afro-indigenous influences and evocations that, from the miscegenation that originated the Brazilian population, gave rise to the diversity and uniqueness of the cabocla and caiçara culture, which inhabits the entire coast of São Paulo. We intend to comprehend the interrelationships between art, the sea and the Atlantic forest, questioning ourselves about the responsibilities that art can upon itself, in the name of protecting our entire eco-system.
We seek to absorb the rich manifestations of cultural and spiritual CosmoVisions and CosmoEthics, through which to apprehend the myth-poetics that reinvent us as Brazilian and universal citizens amidst our urgent contemporary crisis.
We propose a residency that contemplates the multiple ways of feeling and being in the world through visual arts, poetry and music and the search for environmental perception that re-orientes our planetary consciousness to tune-in with the Earth as a living-being, thus in sync with the Universe.
